CDM: Energy Efficiency Improvement Project at a Beer Brewery in Lao PDR
The CDM project titled — “Energy efficiency improvement project at a beer brewery in Lao PDR” was registered by the UNFCCC on 7th April 2007. Proact International Inc. and Mayekawa worked together and Mayekawa mainly handled technical aspects.

Overview of the project;
In order to reduce 30% of all energy consumption in the beer plant and 2400 tons of heavy oil consumed per year, following equipment below were installed as energy saving measures.
- Vapor Re-Compression system
- Heat pump system in the pasteurizing process
- Biogas boiler utilizing methane (biogas) from the anaerobic wastewater treatment
In addition to significant energy saving effects and revenue from CDM, productivity improvement and other savings such as water consumption, enhanced quality and yield contributed to reduce return on investments to less than 2 years for the brewery.
